evisa status after Citizenship Approval & British Passport

Post by hq1221 » Fri Sep 13, 2024 9:53 am

Hi all,

Just wondering if the e-visa (ILR/Settlement) will be revoked/cancelled after applying for first British Passport. And if yes, when will that usually happen?

I ask this stupid question because it may help to use a CHN passport (visa required to leave China and enter UK) to get boarding pass and cross the exit boarder control with evisa.

Definitly I will use British passport when land in the UK airport, so just wonder if it is possible to use in that way when in China.

Thanks

I think this query is confusing or mixing things out.

Once you are a British citizen/have a British passport your ILR status is no longer valid, you're a UK citizen now. Hence the eVisa stuff becomes irrelevant too.

Using the CHN or British passport to enter/exit China is a different thing and very particular to the country. Unsure what is the case in China, but some countries require their citizens with other nationalities to enter/exit using the passport of the country. You just need to travel with both passports and can use one or the other accordingly.

Hi all,

Just wondering if the e-visa (ILR/Settlement) will be revoked/cancelled after applying for first British Passport. And if yes, when will that usually happen? A Brit cannot have an immigration status. So once you're British, you ILR is gone. That's why Brits can't get a visa to enter the UK.

I ask this stupid question because it may help to use a CHN passport (visa required to leave China and enter UK) to get boarding pass and cross the exit boarder control with evisa. Based on your peculiar problem and not wanting to lose you Chinese nationality even though your law requires it. You'll need to find a way around it. A direct flight from UK to China wouldn't work. You can't leave China with a Chinese passport, you'll need to show your visa. However, you can travel to another country that allows visa free entry for Chinese. Example UK-Maylaysia (Ch P) -China (Ch P) then China (Ch P) - Malaysia (Brit P) - UK (Brit P)

Definitly I will use British passport when land in the UK airport, so just wonder if it is possible to use in that way when in China.

Thanks
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

From my knowledge you can't retain Chinese nationality if you become British, so technically your Chinese passport would become invalid and if you keep using it sooner or later you may incur with issues with the Chinese authorities.
