Latest. Certificate arrived within a week of getting the Congrats email, so now off to apply for passport.

Do they still require you to swear an oath of fidelity in person or can it be done remotely? Not that it is a problem as I want to see where my family lived in Dublin. So a nice wee city break for me and my missus.

kind regards and best wishes/ good luck to all applicants.

For FBR it doesn't happen. It's only for ones gettign their cert via naturalization (in this case you do it at a ceremony).

You can just apply for a passport by post now.
Not a qualified immigration adviser. Use links and references given to gain confirmation and/or extra information.

No oaths for citizenship by descent. That's for naturalized citizenship. Straight to dfa,ie / Just click Passport Online and follow the choices. You'll need #s from FBR certificate & a digital passport photo to complete application

A timeline for my 3rd cousins application I helped with last year.

Timeline:
Applied online: Oct 25, 2023
Mailed application: Oct 28th 2023 USPS w/ tracking ( $16). Received FBR Offices- Dublin: Nov 14, 2023
- a bit of time in customs processing
Application Received email: Nov 26 2023
Address check: None
Congrats email: Sept 20, 2024 Said certificate was printed and being sent

My cousin was born in New York City, USA. Her mother was born in Scotland & grandparents were born/married in Roscommon, Ireland. We are about same age but I'm a generation ahead. Certificates from all over!
As always there were NO additional document requests by being thorough, providing everything on check list plus a few extra things- Irish Census & a Scottish 1921 Census . Extra address documents. Everything notarized that could be notarized.
A close friend is a few weeks behind this application & hoping for a repeat congratulations email soon.

What's interesting on this one is that an address check means - not alot , WRT completion . You're not out of the woods until you get the congrats email

Did anyone else not get an option to pay when they applied online? Has a request for payment come later?

I also did not get a payment option on the original application.I received an email for an address check last week, and there was a polite reminder that payment had not been made. For some reason I couldn’t get the payment made on my tablet, but it worked fine on the phone.

Received my "Application Received" email yesterday, a few hours after the tracking said it was delivered in Balbriggan:
Online application submitted: 11/08/2024
Documents posted: 17/09/2024
Documents received: 24/09/2024
....

Just for fun, according to the signature receipt, 16 other recorded delivery items also delivered at the same time:
  • UK: 6
  • Germany: 6
  • Australia: 4
  • Republic of Ireland: 1
I'm sure that distribution of applicants is not at all representative, and is merely an artifact of what flights have landed with mail from various countries since the last delivery by An Post.

I'm curious, but does anyone know if applications are processed in order of online application date (assuming all documents have been received in the meantime), or strictly in order of document received date? Seems to me it could be either, depending on how their computer system picks up fresh applications for their initial inspection.

The queue order is when documents are received and NOT when you apply online.
On a good note- processing is back to ~9 months again. Many Nov. 2024 people getting approved/cert. posted emails this week.

Yeah----most of the UK ones are due to Brexit / most USA ones are some Brexit & rest for just heritage /ease of travel reasons/ Aussie has many Irish descendants thanks to the horror of English deportations
Many doing now because before Brexit nobody really needed it in UK & most didn't even know it existed. Covid hitting shut it all down and backed it all up. My application was basically 2 1/2 years because of these factors. And passport -USPS mail- fiasco added a few months too.
Happy to see that I believe they are caught up and back to 9 months processing if all documents are correct.

Hi all:

How long does it take for the certificate to reach the US? I received the approval email on 19-Sept but have not received the certificate or even a tracking number. Thanks in advance!

usually a week or two unless it gets caught up in customs. Get USPS Informed Delivery. Once it arrives in postal system you can usually follow it.
Soon as you get it make a few color copies. Especially if you're going to get passport. Send notarized color copy. Good Luck and Congrats!

Foreign Births Registration - My Journey Timeline

To help other gauge the current timeline, I enclose below my journey. I applied for FBR based on my grandmother being born in The Republic of Ireland. In January 2023 my official witness was contacted and failed due to no fault of IrelandGov or myself, I had to resubmit my application with a new witness but under the same application number. I also moved house during to process so submitted additional proof of address documents in the January 2023 resubmission.

FBR Online application: 13-April-2023
FBR Application paperwork sent: 18-May-2023
FBR Application paperwork received: 25-May-2023

FBR Additional documents request: 22-Jan-2024
FBR Additional documents sent: 26-Jan-2024
FBR Additional documents received: 31-Jan-2024
~6 months 1 week
FBR Request for address email: 7-Aug-2024
~5 weeks
FBR Congratulations email: 10-Sep-2024
~1 week
FBR Certificate receipt: 16-Sep-2024
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Passport Application - My official photos taken in a passport booth were not accepted by the automated Irish online passport system. Even as the photo booth was Ireland approved. They are too close to the face. I took a Phone picture of me standing by my lounge wall which includes space around my shoulders and it was accepted first time. The system does crop down to your head but must have needed something bigger to work with. Save £10 on a photo booth, use your phone.

My passport application is in progress, ETA 5 week to process.

And the very next day after posting my timeline update I get the congratulations email - woohoo!
Included estimated weeks between responses.
Congrats!! You'll need a digital passport photo & #s on the certificate to apply online. They will call your witness for passport so make sure it's someone that can answer the phone. Send notarized color copies of FBR cert & IDs. Good Luck!
