Yes, after. I was in shock.
Am desperately hoping they receive the document this week and expedite everything next week.
Hi I'm sorry to say that one possible outcome might be that they would, once having received the additional documents, put the application back to the waiting queue ("we are now verifying these documents") for another multiple weeks.

My rough timeline:
- 17th Sep: Received their email requesting a new identity verification form.
- Also 17th Sep: New form prepared and posed.
- 18th Sep: New form received from their end. Status went again waiting ("verifying documents") and a new ETA of 9th Oct was given which was exactly 3 weeks from that day.
- 2nd Oct: Today which is 1 week to the new ETA, it is now "being processed", assuming entering the actual processing queue.

I was informed today that the new document will not be reviewed until the date indicated on the tracker. Horrible service.

Have they acknowledged receipt of the extra document you sent them? Any progress?
Yes, they received the document today and the new etais 23rd Oct. I hope they do not ask for any further documents. The one I sent is a family registration certificate that I have had for over 10 years and the text on it is slightly faded, but they can still read it. It is on official government paper with stamps and shiny paper. I am quite worried and cannot wait to complete this process. It has been over 2 months now. The worst part is that they said the document will not be reviewed until 23rd.....

Sorry to hear about your case and thanks for the update. I have to admit that start to grow anxious on this.
It's unlikely that they observe different policies so that if for your case it is strictly until the new ETA that the processing will indeed resume, there's no reason why it's not the same for me (and others). :(

Did the status on the tracker page go back to Awaiting Documents for your husband? Did you try contacting the web chat to see why this happened?

Online First time passport

Applied online : 23/Aug/2024
Docs sent : 26/Aug/2024
Docs received : 27/Aug/2024
Status changed to Processing : 16/Sep/2024
Contact via Webchat : 20/Sep/2024 (I've politely asked if they required any additional docs, just in case)
Approved and Printed: 23/Sep/2024
Passport/Card received : 24/Sep/2024 (same as per estimated issue date)
Original docs returned to me: 02/Oct/2024

Sent in original passport, Naturalisation cert and birth cert. Photo copies of PS Card (certified), electricity bill and government letter as proof of name and address respectively.

Best of Luck to everyone and it's nearly there now at this stage... 😊

When I tap on Status History, it shows that 2 days ago the status was Printing. And after that, there is a message to say we must provide supporting documents in order to proceed.

I haven't contacted the web chat because I don't think there's much point. I'm sure they'll just repeat what others on this forum have already said about the need to provide 2 photo IDs, even though the original instructions told us that one form of photo ID was sufficient if it was the original national passport.

Our extra ID should arrive in Dublin tomorrow. I might contact them early next week to impress upon them the urgency because my husband now has zero ID. Not a great position to be in in France. Think I'll lock him in the flat for a few days.

So while I still wait for a decision on my passport application, I actually got all my original documents back!

I wonder if it's any kind of foreshadowing.

So they returned your supporting docs, but your status is still Processing?

Hmm. I suspect this is a good sign, though. Don't think it will be too long now.

Same here. For a sec, I got excited that I received the passport but that feeling didn't last long! They've now returned my original documents from original application submission. They still have my another original doc that I sent them as part of additional doc last week.

I hope this is some kind of progress and receive the passport soon...

Fingers crossed really! My wife(who did get her passport at first attempt) also got her original docs today alongside me.

I know from a Facebook group that all the applications with due date of 8th Oct got processed yesterday, if it helps.

This is good to know. I was going to call them early next week and ask them to return at least my husband’s UK passport but if they’re sending them back automatically, I’ll leave them in peace.
Gosh, they’ve really created a lot of extra work and expense for themselves in failing to ask for 2 photo IDs from the outset.

They just sent an email today (a full week after the estimated issue date) asking for a second form of ID for my wife's (she is recently naturalised) application as well .

They had everything they originally asked for since 30 August...so this will set the clock back yet again...

And just out of nowhere, the passport tracker page went to "Dispatched" alongside tracking information.

I won't rest easy until I have it in my hands though.

Welcome to the club, Chris. I confess I was getting a bit smug because until Monday, we hadn't received an email and in fact our status had already changed to Printing. Then wham.
On a more positive note, I think there's a teensy chance that once they've received the 2nd ID, things will move slightly faster than the tracker would seem to suggest. Or maybe I'm just being naive again.

Just in case this might help others that are in the same scenario: For additional document requests it is still likely that the processing finishes before the indicated ETA.

My rough timeline looks like this:
- 9th Oct: New ETA once they received new docs (3 weeks added to that date of receiption)
- 2nd Oct: Status changed to "being processed" from "verifying docs"
- 3rd Oct: Passport book posted and passport card printing (no passport book printing indication at all though)
- 4th Oct: Passport book received

(Previously: I was asked to supply new documents despite caused by a surely mistake from their side. There was a new ETA which was 3 weeks added to when they received the new docs.)

My status went from "Your application is being processed" for over a week to "Dispatched" and "Printing" in a same day. Finally.

My timeline:
Applied online: 02/09/2024
Docs sent: 05/09/2024
Docs received: 06/09/2024
Estimated Date: 04/10/2024
Status changed to Is Being Processed : 24/09/2024
Passport Book Printing/Dispatched, Passport Card Printing: 01/10/2024
Passport Book Received: 02/10/2024
Passport Card Dispatched : 02/10/2024
Passport Card Received: 03/10/2024
Original docs received: 04/10/2024

Thanks to the people in this thread I've sent all documents in origin except for a copy of PSC card. I've also sent second proof of ID in a form of a copy of my driving license certified by a solicitor.

I wish I'd listened to people in this forum and sent in the second ID at the start...instead of following their clear instructions not to.

I am very curious as to whether the Passport Office has updated the instructions in the emails being sent now to new first-time passport applicants who have been naturalised.
Certainly the umpteen law firms advertising their services on the internet and offering advice on the passport application procedure have not updated their guidance. So if the requirements have in fact changed, few people seem to be aware of it.

I’m not in Ireland and don’t have a TD but I would love one to put a question to the minister on this subject. Has there been a blanket rule change for naturalised citizens (the experience of people on this forum suggests there has) and if so, how many people were sent wrongly worded instructions?
Also, for naturalised citizens living outside the State and who do not have a driver’s licence, producing a second government-issued photo ID will simply not be possible in many cases. I see for example, from a previous question put by Deputy Ruairí Ó Murchú on 13 June 2023, that electoral identity cards issued by the Electoral Office of Northern Ireland are not considered government-issued ID because according to the foreign minister, the NI Electoral Office is not « government ».
I understand the need for rigour given the amount of fraud around but this surely needs to be balanced against the need for Irish citizens to be able to effectively exercise their right to obtain an Irish passport.

Sorry for jumping into this discussion. I am curious if there's anyone here who was asked for additional documents in the last month and had movement on their resubmission? Here's my timeline so far :
22/08 : Application Submitted
26/08: Docs Received.
ETA 23/09
16/09: Status changed to Processing Application.
18/09: Request for an additional address proof from a Govt Issued source(which I had any way supplied, but nevermind).
19/09: Additional documentation received.

New ETA
10/10
Just to update my status here.
03/10: Received all my original documents sent the first time around. Resubmitted documents still with DFA.
04/10 : Went into printing, and then dispatched by evening.
07/10: Received both the the Passport and Passport card.

I received my first batch of documents by post today and I rang them today to enquire about the additional document. They said it has yet to be scanned and reviewed by the officer, but I'm hoping that because all of the checks on my previous set of documents have been completed, this new document check will be faster, and I believe I'll be able to get my passport before the estimated date shown on the tracker, which is Oct 23rd. Is anyone else in the same boat???...
