New Irish: Almost 250 applicants take last big step on the road to citizenship

ALMOST 250 people from four continents gathered in Dublin yesterday to declare fidelity and loyalty to the State, the last big step on the road to Irish citizenship.

Participants came from a wide range of nationalities, from Romanian to Filipino, Chinese to Bangladeshi. Within weeks, once fees are paid and outstanding documents lodged, all will become Irish citizens.

The newest of “new Irishâ€

Great article Heybabyy!

I think these were the people who had their appointments in December to clear the oath backlog.

my colleague and I both applied in April 1006 and gave additional information in Sept 2008. We both called just before xmas and were told that our applications were awaiting Guard clearance....and it could take anything between 3-6 months, although the lady I spoke to said I should expect a decision early this year...so like most people from 2006...I'm waiting

I'm also in this same situation. I also applied in April 2006, and sent additional docs at the end of Sept 08. I called INIS late December and was told my application was at the Garda check stage. The lady told me the same, that I should be hearing from them on late January or in February.

AFAIK, Garda check stage is 3 months and Tiperrary guys are trying to reduce it further. So applicants who sent additional docs in Sept 08 must query again by end Jan09/early Feb09 to see if their statuses have changed.

For minister approval, I think it is usually 3rd week of every month when INIS sent letters, so let's see who are lucky people (apart from Mendo) in 09.

Does anyone know when ministers go for summer holidays?

Hi Nicepecsigot, when did you take the oath, did you receive any acknowledgement once you have sent the 'Declaration form'?
did you call INIS after taking oath that said it will be the end of Jan?

Hi nicepecsigot
When in 2007 did you apply, also on what basis did you apply?
Did you make contact with DOJ before they requested additional info if any were requested?
