Reporting HSMP Extension to the Police?

Post by Otake » Thu Jun 09, 2005 7:40 pm

Hi,

On the visa it is saying that I need to report this extension to the Police.
Can this be done in any Local Police Stations or should I go to the Overseas one again as when I first came to the UK?

Just go to your nearest police station (to your residence) and register.

Is it only required for extensions? i mean, does hsmp fresh applications also have to go to the police?

I'm not sure the purpose of this procedure... can anybody clarify?

Thanks

Actually I am hearing different things; one of my friends told me that I need to go to overseas and one of them told me opposite of that.

When you first enter the UK, You need go to overseas police station to get the police certification of registration which is your ID for UK.

And you need to have it updated for every address, work, mariage, visa etc change. These can be done in local police stations.

But I am not sure whether I need to have updated my ID for HSMP Extension in local one or in overseas one?

Any other idea/experience?

Read your extension letter carefully and do what it says. If you are based in London you have to go to Overseas Visitors Record Office. If you are not in London, your local police station will do.

It is possible that some people reading this thread will wonder what registration with the Police is all about. They might think "I am not doing that. Will it create a problem?".

The fact is that some nationalities have a requirement to register with the Police, but most do not. Accordingly if you have not been required to register with the Police then it is because of your nationality, and is nothing to worry about at all.

Hi, there is nothing about police registration in the letter.
But what you said sounds very logical.

Thanks for answers.

I can't actually spot any Commonwealth countries on that list.

I think the main point is that there are lots of non-Commonwealth countries who are nevertheless not on the list.

As a generalisation, if it is a condition of your visa that you need to register with the Police then you must do that ..... if not, you need not do that.

Have you been told to register with the Police? No! Accordingly no need to register.

Hi John,

After going through few threads about the FLR application, and by seeing the FLR application bit confused about whether i really need to take police registration. Now got clarified that it is not needed unless specified to register.

Thanks,
Antony
