I applied on the 30th of December, still no word. The UKBA website says that next week they will be working on applications received on or before the 24th of December... So it is unlikely that anyone who applied in January will have heard anything.

Not a problem.
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/worki ... tingtimes/
It is moving slowly though... Here are the dates for the past couple weeks just to give you an idea of dates.
This week was applications up to the 22nd of December. Last week it was up to the 19th of December. So I am not expecting to hear about mine for at least 2-3 weeks more.

Possible reason could be "High number of Initial Applications & Extensions" under this section.
As the other categeries are just started and would be only Initial Applications.

More caseworkers should be arranged for it instead of long time delay. We have no choice but wait, right?
when did you apply, btw?

Well after I said all that about probably having to wait 2-3 weeks more I got my visa this morning!
I applied on the 30th of December and sent it special delivery.
They received it on the 31st of December with payment showing on the 3rd of January. Stamped on the 22nd January and delivered to me this morning!
It was a very straight forward application and I put it in a plastic binder with the sections marked off to make it as simple as possible for the caseworker and I think that probably helped it get dealt with so quickly!

Well, here is status of my application:
Application Submitted: 03/01/2009
Application delivered: 05/01/2009
Acknowledgement Received: 07/01/2009
Fee authorized: 05/01/2009
Fee debited from credit card: 08/01/2009
Application type: Tier-1 extension application
Application Status: No news yet!
I agree, they homeoffice have become quite slow for tier-1 this year, I still remember, in week starting from dec 16 they were processing the application received on or before dec 10. I guess a lot of applications have been pumped in to homeoffice in Xmas time.
January applicants, could you post status of your application (thanks Nakvis!) in above format please? It will help everybody!
Cheers and Good Luck!

The same issue is being discussed in another thread, so more information may be available there. I'm now beginning to worry that I should have submitted my application more than 6 weeks prior to the expiry of my visa simply because they probably won't end up making a decision on my application before it expires. If they refuse me, then I'm screwed...

Same here, I was not aware that I could apply much in advance (lack of information on UKBA website). They only say "apply asap". "asap" is not a definite timeline. stupid UKBA!

I am surprised to see that there are no approvals yet for JAN UK Applications.
In November month, the applications were getting processed with in 3 weeks time. I dont know what could be the reasons for the delay...

Very surprising. Feb is going to start now and not a single approval for Jan applicants. Even, loads of Dec applications are also pending.
homeoffice website status changed today:
During the week commencing 2 February 2009, we expect to be considering applications that were received on or before 3 January 2008.

That's what I too am hoping! I reckon HO do process quicker than they display in 'waiting times' section.
Hopefully, you can get your visa issured next week.

I applied for my Transitional Tier 1 (General) in the first week of January, and received my passport with stamp this week. It took 30 days in all.
