Are Computer Engineers (2147) no longer eligible to apply?

Post by Whatever » Sun Feb 15, 2009 8:18 pm

Hi All,

This is the link for NOC ID 2147 Computer Engineer job description.

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC ... val65=2147

And on the CIC website this NOC ID is NOT listed as someone who can apply? (only 0213 is there for IT)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/ ... ly-who.asp
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/ ... ctions.asp

Doesnt NOC ID 2147 come under skill level A or B?

Does this mean they have changed the rules & computer engineers can no longer apply as federal skilled worker Category 1. Any thoughts/help would be highly apprciated.

thanks,

As far as I know, as an IS/IT worker or computer engineer or software developer, you can apply if you have a job offer in writing from a Canadian company outside Quebec or have been working in Canada for over a year on a temporary foreign worker visa, and the company asked for a Labour Market Opinion of the Canadian HRSDC and received a positive response (quite unlikely for computer engineering positions).

For most prospective applicants in IT and related fields, the Federal Skilled Worker programme is out of reach (and has been since around this time last year).

The exception is IT managers, whose profession is still considered a shortage occupation and who are still eligible for Federal Skilled Worker immigration.

It does. However, while all the eligible skills are of Skill Type 0 or Skill levels A or B, nowhere near all skills in those categories are eligible. The eligible skills are a proper subset of the skills in Type 0 and Levels A and B.
