Post by rckybhardwaj » Sat Jun 11, 2005 3:09 pm

Hello der,
I was thinking if anyone knows if we could buy a house in UK under HSMP.
Or do we have to wait for ILR and only then can we buy.
Anybody who has info on this can you pls answer.

Thanks

Anyone is able to buy a house, or any sort of property, in the UK, assuming they can afford to do so.

What I mean is that you do not need any sort of visa or permission from the Government to buy property in the UK. Quite a number of properties are owned by non-residents, who often let them out to get the rental income.

If someone does buy a property they might well need permission as appropriate from the UK Government to live in it, which might well mean needing to get a visa.

Of course needing to get a mortgage means convincing the potential lender of the required status.

since a number of us out there are not yet uk residents and either working on a contract basis or on a full time basis, but without a number of years in the UK, can anyone advise of lenders who are prepared to lend?

im trying to get a mortgage and have found only few lenders who are prepared to lend.

anyone had success with any of the high street banks?

thanks

I obtained a mrtgage from St James's Place Bank after being in UK for about 15 months. I was on a five year work permit at that point.
