EEA2 Application & NHS

Post by Mkd-Cze » Sat Feb 14, 2009 6:21 pm

Hello to Immigrationboard,

I have a slight issue with my wife's EEA2 application and local doctors - hope you'll be able to help. I am EU citizen, my wife is Macedonian. We've been living and working in the UK for the last 18 months. I received my residence card last summer - it was quite easy - however my wife applied for EEA2 with the Home Office, now it's been 8 months ago. Still no news on the progress - of course it took many hopeless phone calls and faxes to Home Office workers and funny thing is that each time we call, we get less and less information. We are holding the letter from Home Office confirming application and confirming that she's entitled to work here. We also withdrew her passport to enable her traveling.

The issue we have is with the local GP. Although we have lived here and worked for the last 18 months - she's not able to register herself with the local GP. We've provided them with utility bills, contracts of employment, pay slips, N.I. cards, wife's passport with valid family visa (6 months), but they say that in her case it is not enough to confirm residency. Therefore, before she gets her residence card she's entitle to only private health care or treatment in emergency. They say it doesn't matter that she has been surrending part of her salary to NHS as any other British Citizen.

She would like to see specialist and discuss some issues and they are threating us with bills of houndreds of pounds for consultations. I must say that this not acceptable by any standards.

Can you please send me your opinion on this? Or perhaps you have experience with something like this?

Thank you very much.

V.Z.

Your wife is entitled to get a GP from NHS, but the receptionists have no idea about visas and permits. They only see "6 months" on the passport and that's all.

Try another GP, maybe you'll get lucky.

You might also try Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS), explain your situation and ask them to assign a GP to your wife.

Everything's a hassle, i know, but if you don't insist you won't get things going.

Hi, Was suffered like that and waited for long time then started mailing to local
primary care trust...goto nhs website..by your postcode you can find one.

or mail to this address they will direct you DHMail@dh.gsi.gov.uk .

My local GP denied my wife registration, after that without any question they registered her. even without original passport...just with copies.

Possible add the non-eea family members in local counsil tax bills.

Hope this will help you... dont wait for the passport or EEA2.
