Migrants face tighter work rules

Post by Hope2007 » Sun Feb 22, 2009 4:59 pm

common guys...some more changes again to the system...

From April, non-EU workers wanting to come to Britain without securing a job beforehand must have a master's degree - rather than a bachelor's degree, as currently - and a previous salary equivalent to at least £20,000.

It looks to be a very Bad News.

Does anyone know if this is for Tier 1 or Tier 2 ? As other site have mentioned salary offer of 20k , Tier 1 is without offers

Smith signalled that raising the qualification levels for tier 1 – the most highly skilled migrant route – could cut the numbers from 26,000 to only 14,000 a year. The new criteria will require a master's rather than a bachelor's degree and a job offer with a minimum salary of £20,000 rather than £17,000.

Any body know more details on this ? Any paper is published ? if the same will apply on extensions ?

An other thread has already picked up this news and progressed a bit further, so I would advise not to post in this thread any more. Please use the thread titled "Changes Very soon in Tier 1" to respond to this thread

Well, that's a very surprising news. Hi Tipu, can you confirm where you've heard this piece of news from ?
As I understood, a lower bar of 17000 pounds was for claiming 5 points for UK experience which they're planning to increase to 20000 pounds ..

But your former part of msg., abt the requirement of a job offer at hand is a possibility as countries like US already have similar rules for H1B etc. :(
