from ELR to ILR

Post by tw30 » Mon May 03, 2004 4:56 pm

hi, in december this year my ELR status will expire and i will be applying for ILR. I have a well paid job, and have been employed ever since i arrived in the UK in 1999. i have never claimed benefits and currently live in rented accommodation. i am also a part time student paying my own fees. when i first arrived in this country i claimed asylum and was given ELR status after consideration of my claim. i am an Iraqi. does anyone have any tips for my ILR application? i am anxious to know what evidence i can present with my ILR application in order to help secure a positive decision. evidence in terms of 'fear of persecution' in my country of origin is difficult to prove since the war in march 2003 and the overthrowing of saddam hussein, so i feel i must support my case with other evidence. i have a fianee who is a british citizen, whom i have been having a relationship with for four years now, and this relationship is the main reason why i do not wish to leave the UK. we plan to marry and start a family, but not until my immigration status here is settled.

Shouldn't be a problem getting ILR as long as you have not since grant of ELR travelled to Iraq. The issue of a fiance is moot if ILR granted but if not then it gives you the option of going down the unmarried partner/ spouse of a person present and settled in the UK visa route.
