maintenance fund for visa extention before march 2009

Hello, my student visa expires on 30 april 2009. but I want to extend my visa in end of march before the new rules come. I need genuine advice on maintainance fund. Can I show my sponsors(parents) bank statement in home country? Do I need to show my bank statement too and the transfer of fund in that? If yes how much? please advise asap...thanks.
