EU Family visa valid for travel without family????

Hi,
Me and my friends are thinking about spending few days in amsterdam next month. one of our friend got 6 month visit class c schengen visa. he applied for visa in france embassy as a spouce of bvrithish national. he been granted 6 month visa but on visa its mention FAMILY MEMBER OF EU NATIONAL.
question is can he travell to amsterdam before he travel to france? and can he travel to eu without his eu natioanal wife?

Maybe.

When he is with the EU spouse he has a RIGHT of free movement. When he travels alone, he does not have that RIGHT but will probably not have a problem. He might though be turned back at the border.
