Previous EARNINGS pending?

I have an interesting problem.

I have income from short term contracts. Since I work on assignments, the payments are made within 2 months of the completion of job. Sometimes I do get late payments.

I am claiming from January'08 till January'09. During the Months of Jan'08 - March'08, I have income (amount has gone in my account) from the work which I have done in July '07 - Sept'07. Which was pending and got released late.

I want to claim it as my income in the claimed period. Am I right in claiming it? The only way Assessing officer is going to know that it is from earlier year is the invoices I am submitting with my paperwork.

I got my passport with visa.
I didn't receive any letter with it showing where i scored or not.
So I guess all was well with the application.
