The regulations state that applications must be dealt with within 6 months, but judging by the timelines other members have posted, it seems to be taking 8-9 months for EEA2 applications. You husband does not have to go back to South Africa. Since the application has taken longer than six months, you could try lodging a complaint through SOLVIT. Have a search on the forum, many people have posted their EEA2 application experiences.

I feel your pain rogerex. We've been waiting nearly 10 months now. After many calls we still haven't received anything asking us to return our passports. Unfortunately the same story everytime we call...

They just say it's still being processed and we have a huge backlog blah blah blah. We're sorry and please be patient as we are doing the best we can.

Chapter 5 - Residence Card Applications wrote:1.9 Six-month rule

Community law requires us to decide applications for a residence card within 6 months from the date of receipt of the application. Failure to comply with this requirement could leave the Home Office open to a claim for damages.

They're not making any money out of it so there's no incentive for them to hurry.

Will claims for damages be an incentive?

i've been waiting for my EEA2 application for 9 months now, i have called today and it seems they changed the phone number, the new one is 0845 010 5200 , don't bother to call, it is getting worse, it is just a useless recorded tape which point you to check their website, but the website itself remain the same no update there to be found, basically you are left without knowing either you're in the wait or in the process

it gets more frustrating when you can't even talk to a real person! i start feeling the psychological damage

Phsycological damage is done on my side as well as economic damage as I wasnt able to travel in December therefore losing 50% of the money for the tikets to south america..... Oh well seems like there's no much to do but wait. I'm actually getting used to the idea

11 months and NOTHING yet in the horizon! 2 months ago, i received a reply for one of my letters. (through solicitor) they confirmed that the application is registered in their database and they are going to locate it and pass it to a caseworker! (that was 2 months ago!)

 i've got that feeling that i've been put on hold for an eternity
