Doubt regarding Tier 1 extension after 3 years

Post by SS100 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 5:49 pm

Hi experts,

I've got my Tier 1 valid from March 10th. I'm in India, still because of the current market trends. I am an SAP, functional consultant.Can you Pl clarify certain doubts, that I have.

1. Will my entry to the UK be affected if I dont travel soon?
2. Prior to extension under Tier1, how many years should i be in UK?
3. Is Master's degree a must, when i extend my Tier 1 visa in 2012?

Regards,
Shilpa

1. No, but it may affect ILR
2. You should score enough points
3. No if Tier 1 was applied before 31 March 2009 as per current rules.

@Experts.

I had my tier-1 stamped from 12th March 2009.

People tell horrible things about UK market. If i travel after the 90 days of the start of visa.

What will be the loss in the years to come (ILR specially)? Need your sincer advice as its hard to decide what to do in current recession times?

The maths is simple, you need to be in UK for 5 years to get ILR ( as per current rules and its going to change soon).

Hi hhsmp,

In the situation like this, PR(or ILR) is the last of the worries. It effectively comes down to how much one earns before renewal of visa comes up.
If you have got a Masters degree, it becomes a bit easier to qualify even one gets a bit less income.
In future, for one to be eligible for PR, a new buffer period(1 year) is being introduced, which would be similar to Green card buffer period as in USA.

This is still quite way ahead in the future, so we can be happy for the moment.

Cheers,
Sai

@gopal.

Yea pal you are absolutely right.

So any suggestions? I have a reasonable job in the home country right now.

But its getting tougher day by day, expenses are touching sky.

What should be done? Cause one for sure gets monetary benefit outside there.

Do some reality check before you form opinions about the so called monetary benefits in UK. Pound has dropped from cINR 88 to INR70 now. Cost of living is quite high in UK. With fiscal deficit soaring so high and latest quantitative easing measures, it is inevitable that the taxes will have to go up soon (very high already at 40%) or more and more services becoming "paid for" for the immigrants due to reduced Govt spending in future. Do not want to discourage you but do a sense check before you take the plunge
