Tier 1 (General) Dependant Visa

Post by chadfunky » Tue Apr 21, 2009 2:23 am

Hi....I've read through so many pages on this forum and I'm still so confused......I hope someone can help me.

I am in the UK with a Brazilian passport and a visitor visa. I have just married my partner, who is here on a Tier 1 (General) visa. I am now going to apply as a dependant. Can I apply in the UK, or do I have to return to Brazil to apply?

Also...there seems to be quite a bit of confusion over the maintenance funds required. I looked on the Border Agency site, and as my partner (principle applicant) has been in the UK for more than 12 months, I thought that I needed 533. However, I have read other posts that suggest I need more than this if I apply from Brazil. Can someone please clarify this for me, and send me the link to the Border agency page that explains this. I have only kept about 550 in my bank account, and am now worried this is not enough.

Any help on this is much appreciated.

Cheers.

Better apply from UK only. You will need to show only £533 (for yourself). If you are in UK for more than 12 months you need to show £533 for yourself. Check Tier 1 Guidelines - Maintenance Section.

Visitor's can't change their status. You need to go to your country of origin to apply for dependent visa.

Switch from Visitors to T1 dependent is not possible in country. You will have to visit your home country for the stamping.

Regarding the maintenance fund requirement to what i know the amounts vary from country to country. I only know about India but best is to call up UKBA or try visiting your home country UK Visas website to check on your case.

I may be wrong and just personal advice: i would not recommend you to apply for a switch from UK unless you have some document issued by UKBA which permits. I have not personally seen any.
