Queries in the application form - ICFN

Post by golu » Mon Apr 06, 2009 10:14 am

hi All,

I am going to apply for extension under Tier 1 from HSMP ( non-JR ).
I have downloaded the form and I am stuck at one of the questions..

It is a new thing in the 03/09 version of the tier1 form (page 18; Q C9 to C12) about ICFN (identity card for foreign nationals).

Do i need one of the ICFN to apply for further leave >?

if so how can i obtain it ?

your input will be highly appreciated since I intend to apply by this weekend..

thanks,

Golu

I think they have not started issuing cards to hsmp/tier1 (general skilled) holders.. You can ignore that but i'm not sure..

I am confused about it too..

Have a look at this link. This has been updated on 27th March'09 -> http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... ryidcards/

Further the PDF in this link (can be found at-> http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary)
says -> 'Implementation by immigration category will be simple for migrants to understand. Since each immigration category has its own application form, we will make it clear on the form whether biometrics are required, without the need for suplementary rules.'

This is clear from the tier1 new application form (04/09 version) section 3C which states the following in Q C9:

'Please give details of the applicant's Identity Card for Foreign Nationals. Please note for the application to be valid and complete, the applicant's current Identity Card for Foreign Nationals must be provided, unless it is not available for one of the reasons specified on the application form.'

The reasons specified in the form are LOST / STOLEN / EXPIRED - RETURNED TO NATIONAL AUTHORITIES / ELSEWHERE IN THE UK BORDER AGENCY.

'Not having one' is not covered in the above mentioned reasons in the form. So, doesn't it indirectly mean that an applicant must have one while applying for the extension?

It is very confusing - from the start of section C it says:

For the application to be valid and complete, the applicant must provide his/her original
current passport or travel document unless it is not available for one of the reasons specified
on the application form. If the applicant has a current grant of leave on an identity card he/
she must also provide their Identity Card for Foreign Nationals (ICFN). for the application to
be valid and complete.

So I think we can assume if we don't have an ICFN we can leave that question blank..

Extract from the form
""C. If the applicant has a current grant of leave on an identity card he/
she must also provide their Identity Card for Foreign Nationals (ICFN). for the application to be valid and complete. ""

More over in the id card section; catetgory who nees ID card doesnt mention tier 1 or HSMP. And the above text in the form suggests its only for those who already have an ID card.

For for tier 1 extensions we dont need and ICFN; I'm also about to apply for extension n faced thr same thing.

Go down to the last few pages of the application and you will find the answer there. Basically if you do not have the ICFN then the answer is N/A and you do not have to provide it.
