Hi Dublin,
That is still some good news that applications from 2006 are moving. Called up INIS got really good service this time. Even though status is same(i.e. last check with SW) but still fairly polite and generous and timely reply.
Fingers crossed.

278. Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of pending naturalisation applications that were filed in 2006; the number that were filed in 2005; and the number that were filed in previous years. [18802/09]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Deputy Dermot Ahern): The following is a breakdown of the number of applications for certificates of naturalisation received from 2002 - 2006 and the number pending a decision.

Year....No. of applications received....No. of applications pending
2001...................1,431..................................0
2002...................3,574..................................2
2003...................3,580................................26
2004...................4,074................................87
2005...................4,527...............................470
2006...................7,030............................3,019

I'm a pending '06er as well, but I'm absolutely flabbergasted by those two pending applications from 2002.

What went wrong there? Did they only recently discover these applications buried in the depths of the desk of a deceased member of staff or something?

Another 06er here!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 2002 apllications are no big concern to me as these applications must be very complicated if they are still pending! What worries me is the 2005 applications still outstanding. These pending applications are surely unconcluded cos of the fact that INIS are moving so slowly with the applications.

some of those applications are actually "on hold" -
that is where applicants have lost their jobs and applied for SW assistance while waiting.
those applications will be revised in some (I guess) 6 to 12 month , then decision will be made.

here is quote from real ministerial letter:
"........ Your file was recently forwarded to the Minister for consideration. The Minister has decided to defer decision on your aplication to April 2010 to ascertain of you dependent on state funding or if in that time you return to employment.
This office will be in contact with you again at that time."

Great statistics, thanks for posting tom!

These numbers are quite alarming actually. Almost half of the applications from 2006 (42.94%) are still pending!

This means that 42.92% of the applications are taking between 28 and 40 months to be processed. Without doing a more sophisticated statistical analysis, this suggest to me that the advertised average of 23 months is not really that accurate, at least for older applications.

The only problem is that, this average can be "artificially" kept down by counting invalid returned applications (which take like a week) as "fully processed". :(

Edit: I just realised that not all of these delayed applications are really the fault of INIS/Government. There has to be a proportion of applications delayed due to the applicant not replying to requests from INIS. So, in order to make a more impartial judgement we would need to know the proportion of applications delayed due to the applicant's fault.

Wow, this seems almost sinister given the recent changes in the work permit legislation. By adjourning the decision by up to 12 months, the minister's office seems to be forcing many applicants to leave the state permanently since those on work permits and who have been made redundant have only 3 months to find alternative employment.

Disgrace really. I can't be bothered to ring them anymore and to hear all their waffles. There is still something called dignity in me.

Hi Crown,
Same here applied in 2006 and am not calling INIS either, as all times i called after every month or so same answer(since Sep08-till last month) nothing more.
All i can say is if 2006 applicants are worried abt stamps, expiring workpermits or work visa... Than if you are eligible for without condition as to time, might opt for it. Your choice.

Regards

That's strange...
They told me a similar story except - Garda check done. Waiting for Social Welfare check now.
It's nice to see that they stick rigidly to their own procedures!

On a lighter note...

With the current economic downturn and the irish leaving the country to seek work elsewhere one can only hope that they will be met with the same resistance in the system as we have been for last number of years.

Who can still remember the days queuing 4 o'clock in the morning for their annual work permits and not even being helped on the same day, or being given grief for being a foreigner and stealing the work from the irish?
