Settlement Visa App. From Nepal>UK

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me.
My husband is from Nepal and I am a British National. We are currently getting together our documents for him to apply for a settlement visa, and although we are having no problems there, I have little idea about what I need to include in my sponsor letter. I'm aware I need to write a brief history of our relationship, aswell as why we both want him to settle here, but I'm unsure as to what else I need to include. Could anyone give me any hints and tips? He actually outstayed his original visa and spent time in detention before flying home (he didn't get deported as he booked his own ticket etc) but when processing his application, is this information they will get hold of?
Basically, I'm a bit stuck and any help would be greatly appreciated!! I can also provide any more info that may be needed....
