UK citizen,pregnant with US baby

Hi guys,
From the subject, you probably know where this is going...
I'm a 27 year old British female who is in a LDR with a US citizen and have been for 2 years. During my last visit 3 months ago, I was quite unwell so my oral contraception wasn't as effective as it should have been... We're both absolutely thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents, and we'd like to raise our child (or children!) together. My boyfriend has an excellent job at home in the US so it makes sense for me and bump to go live with him. We're a little baffled at the visa laws, however. To live together as partners, we have to prove we've lived together for 2 years, so that's out. Even though we've been together 2 years, we've only seen each other for 2 week periods every 3-4 months, so we're very reluctant to marry without being sure we can live with each other in daily life, if that makes sense! The best option is probably a work visa but no company is likely to take on a pregnant woman, and a non-citizen to boot. Similarly though, I will need to work before the birth and want to return to work after, so we can provide for our child the way he/she deserves...
Any ideas? we're lost!

Hi thanks for replying.
I'm in UK at moment but have only ever visited the US under the VWP.
Because of my partners work we'd like to live in the US, because it's very unlikely he'll find the same job he loves over here at anywhere the same salary.

but as far as I can see, marriage is probably the only way to get a U.S. visa.

If you want to get married in the U.S. and then stay on, you need a fiancee visa (K-1) not use the VWP.

If your child is born in the U.K. before you get married, there may be special processes to establish the child's American citizenship:

Apply for the fiance visa (K-1), asap if you would like to stay with him in the US for part of the pregnancy and the birth and post-birth, as it is a lengthy process and can take anywhere from 5 to 12 months to be approved, even longer if you do not file correctly the first time. You will be allowed 90 days in the country (3 months) and during that time you will have the chance to get married. It gives you a little bit of time to see how things pan out with your significant other. I wouldn't recommend this since you are kind of iffy about the long term living situation, but you now have a child to think about, not yourselves. If you marry, he can then petition to get you residency in the US. Good luck!
