Congratulations on ILR! You should both contact UKBA, they did give you a contact phone or fax number and reference number, right? They should have sent you a letter explaining ILR is backdated.

You can apply 28 days in advance of expiry of your current leave when you apply for ILR. When it comes to the first extension you can request HO to give you additional leave so that you do not have to reapply. Some of the members on the board have done it successfully while similar requests by others were turned down. I guess HO would not be so harsh to force you to reapply (cant substantiate that though)

Hi Push,

I saw this in the SET(o) form for ILR

"There is a qualifying period to complete in most of the categories
on this form. That period runs from the date on
which you were granted leave to enter or remain in this
capacity."

This looks like that the visa start date counts towards ILR and not the date you entere UK??

It's the date you entered UK (stamp on the visa). A lot of people have been misled by the wrong statement above.

Hi Push,

So it means that there is no way one could complete there 5 years unless they come to UK on the day the visa starts from??? I find it strange as I think when my initial visa was issued I got the passport from embassy 2 days after it was issue. So i could never be in UK on the first day.. sounds a bit strange to me..
