UK Tier 1 Visa Apply from US

Post by rams08 » Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:02 pm

I am eligible to apply for Tier 1 General category visa. I am in US currently on H1 visa and would like to apply for UK Tier 1 as fallback. I have the following queries :

1. I intend to travel to UK next year March 2010. Can I apply for the visa now and in the application indicate the date to enter UK as 03/01/2010.
2. If I apply for HSMP now, how may years do I get the visa for ? 2years or 3 years.
3. If I get the visa, how soon should I travel to UK ? Can I travel to UK after 1 year I got the visa ?
4. If I get the visa for 2 or 3 years but do not go to UK at all, can I renew my visa again or go through the whole process of applying HSMP again.
Your advise will me most appreciated.

The visa will generally be granted from the date of approval even though you might write that you wish to enter UK in 03/10.

3 years

You can travel any time after you get the visa. This could be 3 months, 6 months or even 1 year after stamping. The Immigration Officer may ask you the reason for late arrival but a reasonable answer will suffice.

You will have to apply for Tier 1 (remember it is not called HSMP any more) again if you do not enter UK. The extension/renewal option is only for those who are in the UK and wish to extend their leave.

Many thanks. In the UK visa website, it is mentioned that visa will be issued for maximum of 2 years ? So is it 2 or 3 years ?

How long will I be able to stay in the UK?

The visa will be issued for a maximum period of two years.

Read it carefully.... Initial Tier 1 applicants 3 years....Extension 2 years
from HSMP to Tier 1 extension 3 years....

Thanks.

What is the overall time required from initial application to getting the UK visa approval.

Also, I would like to know any pointers for applying for tier 1 visa from USA. Anyone who has done that, some info would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Puru

Hi Yasa,
I do not know, but I think it would be for two years, please check out this link (which was last updated on 16 June 2009): http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply ... t#14476278

Is it right or not?

May be someone who has been issued the visa most recently, would be able to say something about it!!

Thanks.
