Getting tier1 visa transferred on reissued passport

Post by mpunaskar » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:04 pm

Hello,

I am Tier1 Visa holder and my wife recently got Tier1 dependent visa. She entered UK 3 weeks ago.

We are now planning to get new passport for her which would reflect her new surname (due to name change after marriage).

In this case do i need to get Tier 1 visa transferred on her new passport as well?

or

Is it OK to carry old passport with visa on it + new passport ?

Thanks in advance

Why you want to get a new passport? You can get it done on the same passport. Embassy people will ammend the details page of the same passport.

In case if you want to go for new passport, you need to apply to HO for the same. The fees for the same is over £125.

I have the same question. I recently got new passport since old one(which has hsmp visa stamp) was about to get expire. Do i need to transfer the visa to new one? or i carry both old and new passport?

My understanding was that you need to carry both passport. Experts please advice? Also if there is a link specific to this it would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the same situation when i got my initial UK Entry Visa in 2007 and in 2008 my passport ran out of pages. got NEW passport and never transffered my visa to new one..

i carried both passports everytime.. i travelled around xtimes out of UK for business or to india..

so i can say that it is safe and OK to have visa in old passport cheers..

if u want to be safe.. send both ur passport to HO-croydon and spend some money.. ~125£

As per link provided by pkumar its safe to carry old/expired passport with valid visa along with new passport.

But what about old passport + visa which is issued under different name (before marriage name) than newly issued passport (issued with after marriage name)

I reckon marriage certificate has to be carried along with both passports.

pls correct me if im wrong
