NEW earned citizenship consultation

There's some serious information in this link. Essentially the way probationary citizenship will work if you're on an economic route is if you don't earn enough (amongst other things) to clear a certain points threshhold, you will never become a UK citizen or permanent resident and will be forced to leave the country. The automatic link between temporary residence and permanent settlement seems to be severed under the current government's new proposals.

It's easier if you're on the family route. You just need to be a good citizen and be in a continuing relationship.

No effective start date on this yet, but probably will kick in when the BCI provisions do...think second half of 2011 for those who don't have ILR at that point. Think second half of 2013 for those who do.

It is quite scary and depressing. Citizenship will be given depending upon the scarcity in that particular branch or specialty. Very difficult one. Please go through carefully and give online response to this consultation as it is very important for our future.........It is for consultation for 16 weeks.

I had responded to an earlier 'consultation' on probationary citizenship (and volutary work requirements etc). The impression I got was the whole 'consultation' is just a formality that they are going thru. In the end they decide whatever they had come up with in the first place.

I agree, linking citizenship to job scarcity etc. is totally unfounded. What will they think of next...strip someone of citizenship once their skill area is not in demand any more?

This new process is extremely complicated, open to (mis)interpretations and a bureaucrat's dream!

And they keep saying the new system is modeled after the Aussie one. That's a VERY BIG LIE.
