passport application

Post by peejay » Thu Aug 06, 2009 6:14 pm

thanks for the reply, Anjali.

The passport I used to entered UK expired 3 years back - so do I not need to send my current passport? My current passport obviously has HSMP, ILR visa.

Secondly, if it takes around 6 weeks now to get our first british passport so I can hope to get my current passport back sooner?

NCS or Postal: Postal to UK Border Agency in Liverpool
Date of submission or posting: Mid December 2008
CRITERIA: EU citizen - 6 yr residence(5 + 1 yr ILR)
Date of debit of debit/credit card: Late December 2008
Date of receipt of acknowledgement: Early January 2009
Date of receipt of approval: Early February 2009
Date of Ceremony: Early March 2009 (group ceremony)

She also wrote the following hints:

"On my application form I had chosen a different council to the one I lived in to have my ceremony, but they sent my certificate to my own council. When I spoke to the UK Border Agency call centre staff, (the only time I managed to even get through to someone was at 8:30pm in the evening !!!:? - their call centre is "open" till 9pm by the way...) they said there was no availibility with the council I had chosen.

A quick call to the council I wanted to have the ceremony in, confirmed that what the UK Border Agency said was utter rubbish.

I then asked my local council to transfer my certificate to the other council which they did in only a few days. The council of my choice gave me a group ceremony date within less than 3 weeks of the transfer of the certificate.

Bottom line - once you've been approved disregard anything the UK Border Agency tell you about availiabilty at other councils for your ceremony."

Another helpful hint -
If after your ceremony you lose your certificate or it gets torn or destroyed (for example by a fire, a flood, theft or simply your mad ex, your kid or even your dog tears it to shreds) you can get another from the UK Border Agency in Liverpool for £20. Don't ask to have a "back-up" copy for a "just in case basis" - they only want you to have one in circulation at a time - even though it doesn't say this anywhere on their website or on the request form for the duplicate certificate.:?

hope this is helpful for others
Hi there mate,

Sorry for being pain but I need a very urgent help from your friend. Could you kindly do ask her what documents she submitted with her application for naturalisation? As I am sending mine soon through same route.

Many thanks

Hi Peejay,

I submitted the passport l used to enter the UK. It was returned to me after 2 weeks, and was not endorsed with anything. Im not sure why as the country l was born in does not accept dual citizenship, meaning l cannot use both passports.

pj, I was in a similar position. The passport I entered UK expired 4 years back. So i renewed my passport from the high commission. So i submitted just one , my current passport. And yes you will get ur original document in about 2 weeks time. In most of the cases you will get it back before u can schedule a passport interview....

Why dont you call the passport helpline. They are very useful especially when you call late in the evenings, l think they operate 24/7.

Hello Alina. I got a single letter from the UKBA titled "Citizenship Invitation" which stated that my application for British Citizenship had been approved. In the letter they asked me to call my council and book an appointment for a ceremony within 14 days of the letter (my council details and phone number was in the letter).

I didn't receive 2 separate letters. It seems they have 2 formats i.e 2 letters (one from UKBA and the other from Council with already booked ceremony) and single letter (Letter from UKBA where they ask you to call the Council to book your ceremony)

Does this help?

Thank you for replying. UKBA actually send 2 different letter 1 is a decision letter and other one is invitation letter. Apparently sometime people dont get the decision letter and straight away get ainvitation letter.

I have got the decision letter and its asking me to wait for invitation letter. I was just trying to figure out what pattern they are following these days?

Another thing which I have noticed in most cases(I can be wrong though) that when people gey their letter after some days (like you had after 10 days) they get straight away invitation letter but in my case decision was made on 4th august and I got that decision letter on 7th august.

I guess I have to wait now because cant book my ceremony without invitation letter.

Thanks

From what I've read all here, it seems the process from application to receiving approval normally take between 4-6 weeks, which seems not bad. My other observation is that money are not debited with the same speed as it is for other application category. Wishing everyne waiting for response all the best (including myself).
