Re: Paul O'Grady has revealed that he was held by officials

The TV presenter said he was taken aside for questioning at Miami airport by staff who made the assumption because of his 'funny' accent.

He was then held for two hours while an officer accused him of being an 'illegal alien' from Cuba.

He told listeners of his Radio 2 show: "How could I be accused of being an illegal Cuban alien? Do I look Cuban? Do I sound Cuban?"

He added: "I've been to hell, folks - it's called Miami airport."

The Channel 4 star was later released after the customs officials studied his passport and found no links with Cuba.

Post by mazar » Wed Aug 12, 2009 6:57 pm

Coptown, congrat, but 40 month waiting,if i was wil never be happy for this. because so long process.even the INIS dosent deal with our applications as human bein,40 month for GOD SAKE if you where anywher in the westen country you wil becam 7 time citizen, each time wil take under 6 months, for example as i heard from my clos friends and immigration news,Dutch Freance UK belgime Swedin Asturalia,90 days process only, canada 90 days also, its the bigest shame for the INIS poor and ignoderd process time,GOOD luck,GOD BLESS ALL

I think all the 2007 files are on hold...

That's what I think too. At least it looks like they are clearing the 06 backlog which is only fair. That gives us 07 crowd some hope then. The only thing is, they should remove that "23 months average processing time" rubbish from their website. It's misleading.

I think I heard of that happening once, but I wouldn't be surprised if they say that they can't give out that information on the phone.
Have you been asked for more documents yet? When?

I'm sure you'll hear from them within the next few weeks, don't worry. I was in the same position a couple of weeks ago! just forget about it and get on with your lives until you get the approval letter...

At first glance it seems that our friend has at last managed a sensible post, except that The European Commission/Ombudsman has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with naturalisation, but at least he/she is trying. (some would say he/she is very trying)

I wanted to complain about the queue in the post office once, so obviously I sent a very strongly worded email to the dentist.
I am no longer posting publicly on this website - PM me if needed.

Congrats to Ashimashi, Capetown and other...seems at last they're following some kind of sequence and sorting out 2006 applications which is encouraging..I am one of those mid 06 applicant. Application is with minister..

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the decision once the application is with the Minister?

Mine took 3 weeks. It was submitted on the 8th of July and I received my approval at the very end of July.

They told me in May it would take 4-6 weeks. After 8 weeks I wrote them a letter, and they said it was "in the final stages". The approval letter arrived after a total of 12 weeks.

So, the general rule seems to be: take whatever rough estimate they give you (if any), and multiply the upper figure by 2...
