Legal stay after termination of work contract in Germany

Post by sbaner1 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 7:04 pm

Hi,

I am working in Germany currently and have an Aufenthaltserlaubnis valid till Jan 2010. However, I plan to relocate from Germany sooner and would probably terminate my work contract either end of September or October. I was wondering how long can I stay in Germany legally after terminating my contract. I need to pack and arrange for the move and that might take like 2 weeks. Is that legal, or do I need to leave the country the same day that my work contract terminates? My visa is till January but I assume the company/organization needs to inform the Auslaenderbehoerde about the termination of the contract.

It would be great to have some input.

Sorry I forgot to mention I am an Indian. I need a visa for short stays in Germany.
