Blue, A private ceremony is one in which you apply to attend alone, it is done for a fee. Rather than wait for the scheduled time, which could take as long as two months from date of approval, you could pay a fee to have a ceremony the next day after approval if you want. My council charges £150 for this.
You arrange this after receiving your letter from HO which advises you to contact your council for further arrangement. You can then ask for a private ceremony if you so desire.

Congratulations Papafaith! It has been a long journey, I remember your posts as far back as the April 2006 HSMP rule changes. You have helped a lot of people (even before then, I'm sure). Enjoy the ceremony and citizenship.

Hi Papafaith, congrats on your success. A quick query, is the fee for a private ceremony 150 quid on top of the £720 charged for the citizenship application (which includes the (public) citizenship ceremony fee)?.
cheers
