It will start on the day of the stamped date not your entry to the UK. That's why they often ask about the date you will be arriving so they can stamped on that same date.

the WP itself starts Oct but your ILR clock starts the date you arrived in the UK. So depending on when exactly in november you arrived, you may have extended the WP and your leave to remain. If you arrived within 28days of the stamp date then this might not be necessary.

He needs to apply for FLR using whatever Tier number. His employer will need to continue his sponsorship or he will go back home.
