Net Immigration to UK is down

Post by ashishashah » Thu Aug 27, 2009 2:46 pm

Border and Immigration Minister Phil Woolas said:

'The fall in net-migration is further proof that migrants come to the UK for short periods of time, work, contribute to the economy and then return home. Our new flexible points based system gives us greater control on those coming to work or study from outside Europe, ensuring that only those that Britain need can come.

Net imigration is down not because of strong borders its because of recession and slow economy

Only those who already came to UK before many years now planning to apply for settlement

I dont think any new person will take risk of going to other country during recession, Infact now eastern countries have strong growing economy than west. At present being in their own country is safer, thats why migration is down

Hopefully immigrant will not be used as a pun in election 2010.

For year they have been used for politically expediency, every politician competing on who can be the toughest on immigrant.

Maybe, just maybe, immigrant can rest with a bit of peace of mind.

HA HA HA!

As said by someone else, net immigration is only down because people, predominantly the Eastern Europeans, have decided to either go home or stay at home because of the recession. It has nothing to do with us having greater control on our borders, we still have very little control on our borders. The sooner this incompetent government is voted out the better.

On a side note...

"Separate figures published today showed a rise in asylum applications in the second quarter of this year compared with the same period last year. There was also a fall of 3 per cent in the number of people removed or departing voluntarily from the country.

There was a 22 per cent fall to 2,500 in the number of failed asylum applicants leaving the country, highlighting the difficulty the Government is having removing failed applicants from the UK. "

From The Times.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if more Brits decided to go elsewhere than non-Brits leaving. Why would they leave when they can live the life of riley courtesy of the British tax payer.
