A friend of mine applied to be naturalised in the beginning of 2006 on the basis of 5 years on work permits. He worked for the same company for 8 years now, yet only recently (within the last 4-5 months) he got a letter from the Citizenship division informing him that they are sending his application back to him (that is after about 2 years they actually had his application) as at the time of applying (in the beginning of 2006) he was missing a number of months in stamps. As I said the guy always worked for the same company all these years, but about 5 years ago his work permits were issued a few months later than normally...
The guy was shocked that it took them two years after he applied to count the stamps. By the way, he did send them an update of this immigration status about a year ago, so they knew that he was still in employment with the same company for two years after applying for citizenship.
Another thing to mention. This friend of mine recently submitted his new application for naturalisation using his old reference number, yet they issued him with a new number and told to wait for 20 something months...
