When you apply for the passport do you HAVE to send the original citizenship certificate and passports or can they be verified photocopies ?

Does the post office photocopy everything ?

Yes, you HAVE to send the original citizenship certificate and passport. They will NOT photocopy them for you. I asked that question yesterday at the Post Office.

I am trying to change the location of my ceremony as my local council has given me a date end of Nov. The other council I want to move to is okay with it as long as the home office issues a new letter. I spoke to the nationality centre and they have advised me that they cannot allow a change of ceremony location unless I have moved.

Has anyone had similar experience?

You can change your ceremony location easily within your county with no issues, but for the location in different county you need to have a new letter from HO as the counties doesn't share these information across. I would suggest either go for a private ceremony (£60 I believe) if you are desperate or wait for the ceremony in November. Getting new letter from HO can take even longer if you turned to be an unlucky.

No, I did not use the check and send. I simply filled out my application and that of my wife and child and sent them by registered post. They asked questions about my parents dates of birth and marriage, where I had lived before my current address. These were not more than five or six questions really. The interview was over in less than ten minutes. The surprising questions were about my different bank accounts- who I had them with, when I opened the accounts, and also my mortgages and stuff like that. Apparently they do a lot of background search on one's financial activities before the interview and I think that is probably the strongest deterrent against Identity fraud in the interview process.

But most importantly, they were so very friendly and polite it was almost hard to believe I was within a government institution. Their customer relations out there is at par with private sector levels. I was really impressed.

This is a bit worrying as I applied on July 8 and got my approval on August 21st, dated August 12th. I am also 4 years HSMP + 1 year ILR with a wife and child.
I suggest you give them a call and tell them you want to confirm that your application has been received. Else, they may not perform any check since your application is not yet six months old. And do not give up even if the first couple of guys you get on the phone are not co-operative. Also try calling between 8 and 9 PM when they are less busy.
I don't have the phone number to hand, but if you scroll up through this thread, you should be able to see it some where.

thanks very much for the reply, i spoke to home office now, the lady said yes they have recieved my application on 1st July09, they have carried out checks now it is passed to case worker. she said the guide time is on the website is 6 month.

any suggesstion please.

didn't recieve any acknowledgement from HO,
when i ph them today they confirmed that they have recieved my application on, checks have carried out now its passed to a case worker

I keep calling the call centre and they just fob you off by telling you still being investigated. What more do they need, they have all my details, I went to school here, been paying council tax with the same local authority for 15 yrs, I have worked and paid tax since I was 16. Am educated with a professional job so am shocked to read others who've been here just 5 yrs (with exception of spouse applicants) are getting decisions in a month.

Is anyone else still waiting after 5 months?

Ladyinuk lm sorry you have to wait for so long when you have been living in this country for 15 years. Sometimes not applying as soon as you are eligible has very negative implications. From my own experience, l was eligible to apply last Sep, made an application and sent it off. After l read about other people's experiences l got confused on my eligibility, l phoned the Home Office straight away and withdraw my application. In April this year when l was coming in from holiday, l was stopped for almost half an hour at passport control because there was "something wrong with my immigration history" which needed to be clarified, only to be told that l withdrew my Naturalisation application, and that is seen as an "adverse" action, and l that will always come up when l re-enter the country. I applied again the very next day, and my application was approved.
My point is, not applying when you become eligible might attract extra checks which might prolong your application.

I made numerous phone call to home office but agent advised received completed application and in the queue, if not hear in 6 months then contact back to us.

I believe ppls applied around these dates already received their Ceremony Latter (most of them with in 6 weeks), only suggestion is to wait as you already mentioned that Call Centre Agent haven't provided any update other then letting you know that the application is received and in the queue/under process. Or you can call inquiry line in different timings someone might be able to give you more details.

Yea, I heard this as well calling them again and again is not very good. But I doubt that they could delay any application intentionally. you should be fine asking any update on your application twice a month I believe.

I called them in July & August because I was worried not receiving acknowledgment letter but agent spoke to advised it may take up to 12 weeks to get acknowledgment letter to be received and we cant provide you any update...I didn't chase with them again as I thought may be it is lost in the post because of industrial action and also I got my bank statement which showed fee deduction on 16th July.

I hope will get good news soon. Do they have different processing and approval criteria for different nationality?
