NHS, NIS related query?

Post by betterlatethannever » Sun Sep 13, 2009 6:10 pm

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone especially chetanohja and others who helped me by answering my queries. Finally I reached London... travelled after 9 months...

Can anyone guide me through the process of getting NHS and NIS?
Is there anything else I need to do apart from above?

For NI number, go to your nearest Job Centre and ask them for an appointment. Once you get that you will have to go for an interview where they will take records of your work permit.

For NHS, find a local GP who is registering patients. You will just have to fill a form.

Please do not send me any Private Messages as I do not check these.

Was this in London? I have registered for both NI and NHS in a much smaller town, so there was no real waiting.

Yes. For Job Centre, appointment was given after 2 weeks whereas NHS registration was quick but was asked passport.
