Any law concerning wage levels for HSMP holders

Post by darikusa » Thu May 13, 2004 1:07 pm

For work permits, I believe there is a law that they should be compensated according to the same levels as British Citizens. It should not be lesser than the prevalent wage levels.

Is there any law that HSMP holders should hold the same wage levels as other British counterparts?

There is employment legislation in place guaranteeing all workers a minimum national wage based on age, working hours, holidays etc. Beyond this its a matter of market forces and what you can negotiate. You can always take an employer to tribunal if you believe you are being unfairly treated which includes being underpaid.

Be warned that many employers who realise that you are a new migrant (on HSMP) will try to pay you less money as you dont/may not have UK experience.............unfortunately you may not have a choice as you need to get UK experience ..Catch 22 situation
Where there is a will there is a way.

dont forget that you declare the amount you intend to earn in the first year! At the moment it does not appear to be used, but I am sure as soon as full picture of jobs/salaries emerge there will be pretty certain rules in regards to "what jobs" and "how much" are okay.
