Not automatically. You need to register the baby's birth in the Foreign Births register maintained by the Irish Embassy in that particular country. The baby is an Irish citizen from the time he/she is registered in the Foreign Births register and after that an Irish passport can be applied for him/her.

Hi Strongbow, I read some comments about the need for an Irish-born descend before being allowed the Foreign Births Register and having Naturalized parent is not enough!!!

Is it true?

I am worried about it and searching for some official document to state "Irish-born descend is not required" as this would effect our decision about the baby place of birth.

Hi D15, I couldn't find any official documentation but what I did was to contact Irish embassies in UK and US and they said that this would be fine. I would suggest that you also ask them just for your peace of mind.

there are some veterans here as well who confirmed this to me--JAJ etc who also confirmed this, so maybe they can point to some official document somewhere which confirms this.

@D15 did you manage to get any online documentation that deals with this situation.

@Moderators and other senior members --If you can point to these as well it would be beneficial.

Hi Strongbow, unfort I could not find any official document to support the entitlement! the only document I found was the opposite as per page 10 on the link:

http://www.immigrantcouncil.ie/pdf/8600 ... nglish.pdf

"Anyone born outside Ireland, whose parents or grandparents are Irish citizens is entitled to be an Irish citizen (however, only if the grandparent was born in Ireland)"

Hi Strongbow, that still pose the same question: Is the child automatically entitled to "child's certificate of entry in the Foreign Births Register" even if none of the parents nor grandparent were born in Ireland?

I sent the same question to the embassy but did not get a reply yet.

The third para in that link says they are.
I also received the same reply from the Irish Embassy in London.
