Dependant VISA Status when Main VISA is void

Hi.

Quick question.

When the main visa is void (the main work permit has been cancelled by home office even before expiring due to some reason and asked the main applicant to leave the contry) can the dependant stay back in UK and apply for a Tier 2 visa (I mean the dependant's employer is ready to sponsor a Tier 2 visa).

The letter provided by the home office to the main visa holder to leave the contry with in 10 days doesn't mention any thing about the dependant visa so what is the dependant visa status?
