You were born and raised in the United Kingdom? If that's true, and you stayed continuously in the UK until the age of ten, then you qualify for citizenship I believe, although such an application may have to have been made in a certain time period. I would really look into this. You might already be a citizen (unless you specifically don't want citizenship for some reason?).WCC wrote:. I second ouflake1's post. You could/ should be applying to register as a British citizen not ILR. I think you are supposed to complete a 'Form T' or something.ouflak1 wrote:You were born and raised in the United Kingdom? Sorry about this, i can only imagine what you and your family have gone through. my only advice to you is to read up as much as possible from the links provided on this forum and any other information you can find before you make your next move. Hopefully it will work out for sooner rather than later. Good luckWCC wrote:Firstly, thank you for the responses.
This news upsets me very much.
Why had I been advised to apply for ILR and not for British citizenship? Mr. Woolas had beed told EVERYTHING about our situation and never once mentioned that I was applicable for this, nor did our solicitors. My brother applied for ILR also after not being told anything about being able to apply under Citizenship.
Adding insult to injury, I'm now faced with having to pay another £700 for British Citizenship in the future.
I fear that it is too late for this to be changed as my ILR application has already been sent over 4 months ago and they've taken our money. They have all my documents, including my passport. I also fear reapplying could jeopardize both applications and also restart the waiting period that I've gone through now on 3 occasions.
Our financial situation is very poor, to the point where we've relied on my brother's student loans to help pay the fees, obtaining another £700+ is just not possible.
Is there really nothing that i can do, no one to contact at the HO? Whilst I do doubt that anything will come of this I cannot stand watching the days go down.
