Immigrants now require 'permission' to stay in UK

Post by uk.workpermit123 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 5:33 pm

Hi,

I saw in economictimes on 13th Nov 2009 in india an article with title as in subject which says...."Further tightening its noose on immigrants, the UK has proposed a bill under which five current application categories available to such people will be replaced with a clear-cut concept - 'permission' to be in the country."
It also says..."Yesterday, Prime Minister Gordon Brown had announced that doors will be shut to highly skilled non-EU doctors and engineers, and the government will consider denying visa to students seeking entry to short-term programmes. "

1) Can someone throw some light on this?
2) When it is going to come in effect. Meaning till when Tier1 is applicable?
3) Will it affect those who already got a Tier1 or gets Tier1 before this 'permission' things come in effect?

I am not yet sure whether i have already lost the opportunity of Tier1. Please help with correct information.

Thnaks and Regards,
AKS

Hi,

These changes are proposed. Indian newspaper always print these stories as they know so many Indians are willing to settle abroad.

I will advice you to check UKBA site regularly instead of relying on news stories.

Here are the details with access to original pdf files on the right

I do not see how this new bill will make immigration more difficult!

Is it an other window dressing by Government?

What's the difference between "permission" and "leave to enter/remain"?

For those coming to the UK...Vinny you're right there;s no difference at all...

Based on what I understand from the text...if an immigrant commits an offense whilts here, the Govt will have a futher say if she/he will 'permitted' for a longer stay here...

In case this bill gets approved, any i dea about the timeline of starting it? Meaning, normally at what point of an year UK Govt makes a new law effective? So that can get an idea of safe period for applying for Tier1.

Thanks,
