canadian citizenship query

Post by abercroft » Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:29 pm

If you got your C. citizenship because your mother was Canadian, and she got hers because HER mother was Canadian, do the changes brought about this year take that citizenship away from you? (second generation citizen)For instance, if neither you or your mother were born in Canada????

If you were Canadian on 16 April 2009, you keep that status.

But if you were born between 15 February 1977 and 16 April 1981, you may have lost your Canadian citizenship at age 28 unless you took steps to retain it.

Can I still presume that second generation citizen, who WAS a citizen in April of 2009 will lose that citizenship if he does not live in Canada for at least a year before he turns 28?

If you were a Canadian Citizen when the new law came into effect (April 17th, 2009) you keep your citizenship. This new law will not automatically revoke it.

Depends.

How did she become a US citizen and how old was she at the time? And when she became a US citizen, was she married?
