Type of visa : UKBA vulcan 2

Hi,

Does anyone know what UKBA 'vulcan 2' stands for in the type of visa section of the UK visa.
I came here in 2006 and had 'work permit' in the visa section on the passport, but after the renewal in 2008, the new visa says UKBA vulcan 2.

I assume this is still a work permit and not any other category?
Can someone advise please?

There are two buidings, Steel and Iron.

It is just where your vignette was printed. The ones you get to come into the country have a different format, and yours said "work permit"

2 for one of the buildings - Vulcan 2 is where it was printed.

Tier 2 didn't exist in 2008.

Ok thanks for the clarification..

I understand they didnt exist in 2008. At the moment in 2009 are they considered the same , work permit = tier 2? i.e in my next renewal in June 2010 will it come back with tier 2 on it

WP now no longer exists.. it has been replaced by Tier2(G)..

and when you go for your renewal..

1. your WP Employer should be ready with Sponser License (SL)and
2. at least well in time should get a Certificate of Sponsership (CoS)given to you
(while giving you the CoS, you should make sure that your Salary is as per the CODE OF PRACTICE - (COP)) if not your visa can be easily rejected..
3. Once you get the CoS, you will use that Unique Identification Number UIN in your application and send your application for renewal..
4. This renewal process is now taking min 4-5weeks but may change..
5. Then you will be provided with Tier2(G) Visa..

My query is then on this scenario..

I had a work permit from June 06 to June 08 and then renewed again for 2 years until June 2010. I assume all this time will be under WP?

Now when the visa goes for renewal, it will come back with tier 2 visa rather than stating WP.

Will my time spent on WP be valid to apply for ILR in 2011?

As of now and as per current rules your time spent on WP/Tier2 visa will be valid to apply for ILR..
