There is no fast rule though, but most people posting about their EC reqirements have done so with about £3000.00

Nizamm, as Papafaith has already said "There is no fast rule". Quite right. There is no fixed amount you can look to which will be acceptable.

The main reason for this is that accommodation costs can vary so considerably.

So Nizamm, where in the UK are you intending to live? Have you any idea what your accommodation costs are likely to be?

The funds available ... you merely need to show that you and your family will not need to claim certain Public Funds. Accordingly if you already have a job to go to then you will not need to have so much, compared to if you will be job-seeking.

Also make sure you have evidence of a confortable accommodation for you, your wife and baby.

Goodluck in your EC application.
