Sally, I did not spot this on Friday.

Congratulations on the ILR, but then I have to say, well, why not! Anyone able to produce the evidence that needs to be supplied should indeed get their ILR.

When are your three years in the UK up? Do you intend to apply for naturalisation?

my three years will be up feb 07...but i am not sure whether to go for naturalization or registration? any thoughts and what are the differences?

Sally, nothing you have posted suggests you can register as British. You will need to apply for Naturalisation if you want to become a British Citizen.

It therefore follows that one of the documents you need to enclose with your naturalisation application is a pass certificate from the Citizenship Test. That test can be taken by you whenever you like ... no need to wait until near to February 2007 .... but you will need to study the book before attempting the test.

You could take the test, but what if the rules change again (which is always likely with the goverment using immigration as a political football)? It could be a different test, or the test could be abolished, or some other silly requirement could be imposed.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

It is extremely unlikely that the test will be withdrawn or altered significantly. Even if it were changed the Government would not deem already-issued pass certificates as invalid.

I am not suggesting that Sally rushes down to the test centre straight away. However it can do no harm to buy the book and start studying it, and to take the test when she feels comfortable to do so.

I am only eligible for naturalisation in July 06, and I bought my book 3 months ago! I havent read it yet, but it sits on my coffee table as a reminder that I will have to start studying real soon!!
