what can be done if visa rejected due to photo?

Post by psychic » Tue Feb 09, 2010 3:23 pm

My friend recently got his PSW visa rejected due to photo, i was not able to find a thread similar to this problem. Can someone kindly tell me if we can appeal with a new photo or a fresh application has to made.

Whether you can appeal depends on two factors:
1. Has the right of appeal been granted?
2. If the photograph(s) did not meet the required standard or were outdated, on what basis does the applicant intend to appeal the refusal?

It is sad to see people get rejected. I made my application 18th january and am waiting. I have also hassitation of being rejected as i forgot to write my name behing the pictures. Would you please tell me what was the concern with regards the pictures being rejected? Is it becouse of size or ?

I would be very happy if you could illuminate me on this matter. Regards.

The photo must have been terribly bad, was it taken using a Mobile phone?

anyway, there is guideline for photo available here

http://ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/siteconten ... pbs/193059

The HO is strict about their guidelines. It must be followed, especially now that the photo will be reproduced on the ID card.

It is quite strange and wicked of the case worker not to write you and ask you to send a correct passport photo that is ok. this is extremely wicked.

However, you need to appeal with the correct photo, tell the court that you are not a photographer, I am sure the Judge will allow your case.

uguracar,

Rules are rule and yes HO does ask people to write name on the back. It is even more relevant if you are submitting application/photos for dependents as well as they probably wouldnt know who is who just by looking at the picture.

If you are the only one who is making application , and you forgot to write name, then it should be ok. If someone else was included in your application as well, then there is an ambiguity. Caseworkers dont like ambiguity in general.

If you are lucky, they will ask you for you to tell them who is who or send new photos but if you are unlucky then... we now know they can reject people on such small reasons.

All the best

Make a cover explaining that you forgot to write the names of applicants on the back of the photographs so are sending new sets of photographs. Clearly mention your birth date, nationality, passport no. and application reference number in the cover letter so that they can identify which application these photos belong to.

Call up UKBA to find out the address where you should send this. Post it by Special Delivery.

If a decision has not been made and they receive the photographs before then, it will do you immense good and save you a lot of money.

I am extremely sorry for not being able to provide you with further details as he was not a very close fried and I just came to know about his rejection and that he decided to go back to his home country and make a fresh application.
I wanted general replies on whether appeal will be granted for such cases and previous experiences.

Mine was taken in a tesco photo booth(I honestly could not find a large no.of photo studios combined with the fact that i saw many people use the photo booth at tesco/stations made me assume it was normal to take it from them) and I have taken care to ensure it adheres to the guidlines as much as possible. It was just that I came to know about the rejection after I submitted my application, hence wanted to be prepared about my options in case of rejection.
Good to know new photos can be submitted in an appeal.

Like I have mentioned above, I have taken from a tesco booth and follwed the guidelines, would you recommend me to retake it from a professional studio and send it to HO? My visa fee was deducted yesterday, so i am pretty sure they have not yet made a decision :)

It doesnt matter where you have taken the pic from as long as it satisfies the measurements as given on the website.

compare your photos with the good and bad examples of photos that can be found on the document on ukba website. (next to the psw application form). you will see if ur pic is ok or not?

i needed to do it twice in a booth to get the right picture of myself.(damn those tiny booths)

seriously... i dont think anyone go to the studio to get a passport photo.. must be expensive!

This has given me more hope, thanks arsenal49. How much ever you compare it yourself, you dont get the satisfaction of it done by somebody else. This is more to do with human psychology, having said that i have already submitted now hoping for the best.

Well the cost of taking photo from a studio fades in comparison to the application fee

after sending my application, i realized that my fotos were more than three months old.
One of my colleagues did the same but he was contacted by the home office to send the updated fotos but in my case it has been more than 5 weeks but no contact by the HO yet.

do i need to call the HO?
