how to register birth abroad.

hi all, we recently obtained a british passport from bhc islamabad for our child. but we didn't apply to register his birth to obtain birth certificate.

could any one advise how to register his birth at bhc? is it necessary to do? what is the benefit of the birth certificate? how long does it take to prcess?

any reply help is highly appreciated.
