Slightly...ok...very worried.

Post by Tippy » Tue Feb 23, 2010 10:19 am

My student visa expired on the 31st of January.

However, despite my results coming out on the 10th of December, my university did not make them official until January 29th. I was told that until they were certified, my PSW application would not be valid.

On the 29th, I head over to school and finally pick up the letter that confirms I have a master's degree from a UK institution. By then I had sorted out a bank draft (was going to use my debit card but it was expiring in february and didnt want to risk any confusion) and set up all the other support docs.

I was all set to send it but here's where I made a mistake apparently- at least from my reading of the notes. I sent it by courier (UPS). According to the notes, With courier, the application is accepted as receieved the day it arrives, which was Feb 1. (With royal mail, it's accepted as receieved the day it was sent Jan 29th.)

So now i am thinking i am screwed, as they will have receieved the application after the visa expired and the loophole of it being sent before the expiry date doesn't seem to protect me as I had anticipated.

I keep on turning it over in my head. Wondering how I missed the bit about the courier vs. royal mail. Facepalm.

I've also not received an acknowledgement of receipt letter but from reading on here that seems to be hit or miss.

Any advice as to what I can do?

Guess u either would have to wait for your acknowledgment letter to see when it got there or u would have to call the home office and give your name and see what they have to say about it, if they got the documents on time and what the status is.

i guess you are worried for the right reason.....i have spent a lot of sleepless nights too when i had my visa application on progress.......but theres nothing you can do about it right now except that you should have sent a covering letter along with your initial application explaining your situation very clearly.

the best you can do now is to wait for your ack letter and the day you get it.....send HO a letter with your reference number that you will get in the ack letter explaining the reason for the delay in sending your application and if possible get a letter from your university too stating that the award baord gave their decision on ur degree on the 29th of january. that way you can prove that you didnt delibrately delayed your application.
