Regarding Child Trust Fund

Post by viji » Tue Feb 23, 2010 1:00 pm

Hi,

I have one question regarding CTF.My baby was born in UK(on 26th of DEC 2008).Will he eligible to get an CTF Account(with intial amount 250 GBP)?
NOTE:we are not the permanent recidence of UK or the Citizen of UK.We are TIER 1 (HSMP) holders.

Thank you

The answer is quite simple. If you are able to get Child Benefit in respect of the child, then yes, the Child Trust Fund payment will also be made.

However if there is no entitlement to Child Benefit, then no entitlement to the CTF payment.

So you are on a Tier 1 visa, and your spouse no doubt on a Tier 1 Dependant visa. So probably no entitlement to Child Benefit. But do tell us the nationality of the two of you, and also if either of you worked in another country, apart from that of your nationality, before coming to the UK, details please.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.
We are Indians. We came to UK 3 yrs back on Teir 1 visa(HSMP).
We both are working. My main doubt is are we eligible to claim child benifit?
some of my friends told that if the baby is born in Uk you are eligible to claim child benifit(even if you are in Tier 1 visa).I am in big confusion whether we are eligible to claim child benifit or not?
please help me in this.

Thank you

As Indians, prior to getting ILR, you are not entitled to claim Child Benefit, unless prior to coming to the UK you and/or your wife worked in a country such as Canada that has a reciprocal Social Security agreement with the UK.

So no claim for Child Benefit means no entitlement to CTF payment.

CTF vs Junior ISA for Tier1 dependent child

Post by hml9 » Wed Apr 06, 2011 1:40 pm

Hi,
my son is born May 2010 in the UK. We have no recourse to child benefits (I am from Morocco and my wife from Ukraine)
The home office only delivered his ID card last week. (Tier1 dep)

The CTF was discontinued Jan 2011.
The plan for Junior ISA is to start from November.
Only children born on or after 3rd January 2011 can apply.

Do we have any option to open a tax-free savings account for him?

We are Indian national and got our ILR last month (Dec 2011) and also we have claimed the Child Benefit in Jan 2012. My son born here in Jan 2008 and since never got any benefits. Can we claim Child Trust Fund as well?

Please advise me, thanks.

Well no, one of the conditions is :-
you were paid Child Benefit for that child for at least one day before 4 January 2011
-: and obviously you fail that condition.
