Invitation Needed for Fiancée Visa?

I have read through all the UK Visas information sheets and I have not been able to find out whether a written invitation from the sponsor (me) is also needed, together with all the other supporting documentation, when my fiancée applies for her fiancée visa. Does anyone know?

Both of you have the ability to include a personal letter and include those in the "evidence folder". Your letter should say something like how you are looking forward to her coming to the UK and finalising the wedding plans together and spending the rest of your lives together.
