Coming to UK as refugee in another EEA country

Post by soundforger » Thu Mar 25, 2010 4:33 pm

Situation: Was given asylum in Sweden, which is an EEA country.

Question: Do I have the right to come to UK to live and to seek work?

I have googled extensively on the subject, no help in in sight. Hopefully someone on this board knows the answer.

Thank you

As far as I am aware, only EEA nationals are allowed to work anywhere in the EEA country members. You are not an EEA national. You might need to apply for a work permit. Why not go to the EEA office there and get information.

You have no right to come and seek for job in the UK as far as i know.if you are a citizen of Sweeden then you will be fine. there is different between Asylum and EEA nationals. You definitely need a work permit to take that step. Good luck.

People who have been recognised as refugees by another country have two options if they wish to come to the UK as refugees:

1. an application to transfer their refugee status to the UK from the host
country; or
2. a claim for asylum, based on a fear of persecution in the host country
(assuming that the claimant continues to fear persecution in the country
from which they were originally granted asylum).

The UK Border Agency receives both types of application, and it is important to distinguish between them.
