Trainee Accountant

Post by Summertime » Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:28 pm

I am a chartered accountant. In South Africa you have to do a training period of three years at a public accounting firm (PricewaterhouseCoopers in my case. ) I am currently busy getting employer references together and am concerned about the fact that the position is called a trainee accountant, even though you have to be a graduate in order to perform the job. (they only employ you once you have completed your Commerce degree). I am concerned that they will not view it as a graduate level job due to the job title trainee accountant. Any advice?

They will give more importance to your roles and responsibilities than to your job title. Atleast its a part of the guidlines that they have to follow which you can read from hereso that you get a better understanding on how they assess your work experience. Please note the HO website can be very slow at times.

Dear Summertime,

My job title was "Actuarial Student" when I got my HSMP 3 years. My HSMP application was approved the first time. I was an in-country applicant, but they also considered two previous years of experience I had in South Africa. So do not let that put you off.
